----------------------------
Quick Start to Using this CD
If you have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader plus the
Search plugin installed, you can start using the disk now by double-clicking
on start.pdf. (If you do not know if you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed,
try double-clicking on the start.pdf.)
If you click on start.pdf and the End User License Agreement (EULA) opens
Acrobat Reader is installed and you may continue to use the CD. If the EULA
does NOT open, read the instructions below and install Adobe Acrobat Reader on
your hard drive. Then click on the start.pdf.
From the Main Menu Screen, you may search for a word or phrase by clicking on
the Search CD button. If the search box does not appear when you click on the
Search CD button, read the instructions below and install the Adobe Acrobat Reader
with the Search Plugin.
**NOTE: If you do not already have Acrobat Reader 4.0 on your computer, then you will
need to install it from this CD-ROM before proceeding. The installation instructions
are detailed below.
----------------------------
Quality of Images
All Journals on this CD published before September 1994 were scanned from the original
printed copies. As a result of the requirement to scan at a low resolution, the photographs
in earlier issues do not look good on screen or in print.
The scanning resolution was set low so all 100 Journals could be placed on this single CD-ROM,
which is limited to about 650 MB. The ITG Board of Directors felt it was important to be able
to search the entire body of Journals from this single CD.
Beginning with the September 1994 Journal, the type, photos, and graphics should look great
on screen and print well, because files for this CD were produced from the original electronic
print files.
----------------------------
Using Acrobat Search and Find Features
You may search the entire CD by using Acrobat's SEARCH feature. You can select Search from
the main menu or from the bookmark window on any page. You may also search by clicking on the
binoculars over the file image in the tool bar.
Once you find the word you are looking for, you can go to the next entry of that word by
clicking on the right arrow over the file icon at the far right of the tool bar in Acrobat.
You can navigate back through the words you have seen by hitting the left arrow over the
file icon.
If the Search feature does not work, reinstall the version of Acrobat that comes with this disk.
The FIND feature enables you to find a keyword within the PDF file you have open. You may use
the find feature by clicking on the binoculars in the tool bar or by hitting <command-f> for
Macintosh and <control-f> for PC.
Once you find the word you are looking for, you can go to the next entry of that word by
hitting <command-g> for Macintosh and <control-g> for PC.
----------------------------
Printing Pages
You may print any page on this CD. The quality of all text is good and very readable. Be
careful to specify the exact pages you want printed. Many Journal files are 80 or more pages
long. If you do not specify which pages in the file you want printed, your computer will print
the entire Journal, not just the article you are viewing at the time.
You can tell which page of the file you are viewing by looking at the bottom left menu bar in
Acrobat. For example, "4 of 57" means you are currently viewing page 4 of a 57 page file. If you
wish to print ONLY that page, instruct your computer to print from page 4 to page 4 when your print
dialog box comes up.
----------------------------
Zoom In View
You may enlarge or reduce the viewing size of any page by using the Magnifying Glass tool or Page View
icons in the tool bar. If you enlarge a view and then return to the main menu, or go to another file,
the view size may remain large resulting in the poor appearance of graphics. If the graphics of a menu
page looks poor, reduce the viewing size with the magnifying glass tool or Page View icons.
